January 24, 2008Last year we watched a sickening and disturbing documentary by Louis Theroux about Westboro Baptist in Topeka, Kansas. They are such a horrible bunch of nutters that i will not even grace them with a link to their website or to the wikipedia page about them! It would be best if you didn’t read more about them, you will be disgusted enough by the following ….
from Fox news: A radical Baptist church in Kansas known for picketing the funerals of soldiers who perished in Iraq said it intends to protest Heath Ledger’s memorial service with signs claiming the actor died and is in Hell because he played a gay character in “Brokeback Mountain.”

I just read a post over at Brian’s blog and whilst not surprised at the tactics being employed in politics i was until now a little bit naive to this kind of thing. I often forget that Northern Ireland is not alone in its history of bigotry and underhand tactics in society and politics. Its a political thing right? They will do whatever it takes and their supporters will do whatever it takes to undermine the opponent. So, ever since Obama became a Presidential candidate emails have been circulating that suggest he is a Muslim who refuses to recite the pledge of allegiance, and one who “joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.”
Heres what Obama has to say for himself: “I think that those who are of the Muslim faith are deserving of respect and dignity, but to try and feed into this fear-mongering and try to question my faith commitments and my belief in Jesus Christ, I think is offensive,” Obama also said. “And I want to make sure that people are absolutely clear about what’s going on with this, and if they get another one of these e-mails that they’re deleting it and letting their friends know that it’s nonsense.”
Ok, i am a little slow out of the “bogging blocks” with this story, it has been zipping around for ages BUT in all honestly i had look at the post on Brian’s blog and disregarded it as another U.S politics post that was of no consequence to my little Irish head. Then i read it! The power of this information age is immense, the influence and power in politics of such bloggers as Hugh Hewitt or Instapundit is amazing but there is a negative aspect as seen with this campaign against Obama.

Twitter is still quite a new thing for me, id heard of it and was slow to really take a look because lets face it, who needs another social networking facility? Not me i thought! January 23, 2008A quick 5pm check shows a little improvement in my status! I have done very little today, got out of bed at lunch time when Cherith came home and then sat about freezing cold. Had a bath. Sat about some more, still freezing and then phoned my mum! I doubt that i will be eating anything today, maybe some dry toast and a wee cup of tea BUT i hate to say this, i feel kinda rough as ! So, its fair to say i am better than i was earlier and have not vomited since just before lunch time so thats always good!

I am sick today! 2nd time in 2 weeks iv had to stay home only this time i did vomit, 3 times to be exact! Im not sure what has happened, i know it isn’t the crazy bug, at least i am hopeful it isn’t! Anyway, Cherith came home at lunch time to check if i was ok and have some lunch. So as she ate some soup, i thought about how much the soup looked like my vomit and read the newspaper she brought me. The cover story is a shocking tale of the suicides of seven young people from the same local area in the past year. These people were all connected in some way and it has opened up the ongoing debate about the influence of internet chatrooms and networking sites.

The BBC says: Hollywood actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan residence, a New York Police Department spokesman has said. “He was found unconscious at the apartment and pronounced dead,” a police spokeswoman said. Read the full story here
